Jump Start Your Life Again

A routine is a magical thing in a performance such as ice skating. In everyday life, it can suck the proverbial soul out of you. If you find yourself in a rut, you need to break the routine.
Movies and books often suggest that a person in a rut has a sudden inspirational moment that changes them forever. Sorry, it doesn't really work that way for most people. Instead, it comes from recognizing you are in a routine and moving beyond it.

Being in a rut is like living in a glass bubble. Life goes on all around you, but you really don't notice it. Instead, you are blindfolded to your daily repetition and task. You need to wake up and see things. If you do, you will be surprised by everything happening.

So, where can you find inspiration in your daily life? Well, there is no universal answer. Remember, inspiration is unique to the person involved. That being said, what about the following.

1. When you wake up, take inspiration in the fact you have a full day to do something great.

2. Sign up for lessons to learn how to play an instrument.

3. Take a long, hot bath.

4. Plan out a vacation, even if it will be a bit before you can go.

5. Make a list of 100 things you want to do before you die. Tape it to the mirror in your bathroom. Work towards accomplishing the list each and every day.

6. Make a list of 10 things you find embarrassing. Now go do them.

7. Call a brother or sister to reminisce and laugh.

8. Go for a hike and admire the world around you.

9. Try a food you have never had before.

10. If you are eating out, focus on the taste of the food, not the discussion at the table.

11. By a Nomad Journal and use it. Review your entries every month.

12. Hold a wine tasting party.

13. Realize you can do it if you want to.

14. Hey, even George Bush became president. If he can, what can you accomplish?

15. Do a search on YouTube for running bear" and watch the video. If you don't double over in laughter, see a doctor immediately.

16. Stop worrying about what you cannot control.

17. Watch the movie Rudy", even if you hate sports.

18. Write a poem.

19. Make a list of all the good things about you. Don't be bashful!

As with any list other than one for a cooking recipe, this is a guide not an absolute. The trick is to realize the list represents the idea of moving beyond your routine. You can do anything you want, so long as it is not part of your routine. So, what are you waiting for?
